Purpose:

To provide education and training in specific work-related tasks and responsibilities to equip food handlers with skills and knowledge necessary to handle food safely and prevent foodborne illness.

Scope:

Practices and behaviors that are proven to be or are likely to be those of food service workers.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify terms and concepts associated with foodborne illness.
  • Identify health and hygiene requirements.
  • Identify time and temperature control requirements.
  • Identify requirements for receiving food deliveries.
  • Recognize food contamination prevention concepts.
  • Recognize requirements for cleaning, sanitizing and chemical use.

Requisites to Earn the Certificate:

Have access to a computer and the internet and possess basic computer skills for navigating the website and training program. Participate in the self-paced learning event, going through all the program material and completing each lesson quiz. Verify achievement of the learning outcomes by obtaining a passing score on the final exam.

Certificates:

States, counties and local authorities may dictate the meaning of the certificate in their specific jurisdiction. Certificate holders are responsible for knowing when they need to retake the course.
